Incremental and Differential Backups
Incremental backups store all the changes made since the last backup, differential backups save the changes made since the last full backup. These methods are much easier and quicker than a full backup and use storage space more efficiently because files are not duplicated like with full backup.

Local backup is where the files you store are saved close to hand e.g. external hard drive or USB plugged directly into your computer or on a local shared network. Local backups offer good protection against hard drive failures and viruses and storage can be cheap and very fast. The only downside is that in the case of a theft or a disaster e.g. a flood, saved data can be lost or damaged.
Offsite Backup
Offsite backup is where files are stored in a different geographical location to the source. Offsite backup tends to be fully protected by a separate team or an experienced third-party IT supplier. They provide many benefits and are ideal for companies with a large amount of sensitive data.
Online Backup
Online backup, also known as cloud backup, is where data is saved on a storage server connected to the source via the internet. Since this backup is performed online to another site your files will be protected against damage from a disaster. Since the data can be updated and replicated from several storage devices and serviced by a few internet connections, the system is not at mercy of a single point of failure.
There is no one type of backup that provides the best results, but a perfect combination of a few. Having the right combination suited to your business enables you to manage and update your files easily for your specific organization, whilst effectively protecting them from loss or harm – and give you peace of mind.
